The founding father
In early 1998, Adam Baida started ringing around Pulteney Hockey players from the previous few years in hoping that they would be keen on putting a team together in the Senior Men's competition of Hockey SA's winter season. Now, 11 years later - with four Grand Final appearances, one premiership and now both a Men's and Women's team, the club is going forward at an amazing pace.
Riding tough times
The club came close to folding early in 1999, 2000 and 2007 due to problems with consistent numbers. Many games were played with 8 or 9 players on the field and on many occasions without a goalie. Even through these tough times, we only finished bottom in one season - something that the club prides itself on.
Enjoying good times
Since then, the club has thrived and was very competitive for 5 years in division 6. In 2003, the club was promoted to Division 5, a challenge that the whole club is took on with an amazing amount of energy. This energy paid off the same year as the club won their first Premiership. In fact, the club made a Grand Final in 4 consecutive years up to and including 2004. Unfortunatly, due to Hockey SA Grading, the Men's team was not able to fit into the Division 5 teams for Season 2009. The club sees this as a challenge to get 'back up there' as soon as possible.
Club Goals
It has always been the club's main goal to have fun while playing Hockey and to do the best we can both on and off the field. We pride ourselves on taking in players fresh out of school, turning them into reliable, thirsty people. Then, if they decide to try-out with another club in a higher position, we release them and wish them all the best. If it doesn't work out, we welcome them back. We also welcome non Pulteney players to join us.
Women's Team
The club has tried over the years to get a Women's and Men's teams both up and running. It wasn't until late 2008 that we realised in 2009, this would in fact be the case. Lauren Dimas (nee Turner) worked hard on getting the numbers and commited players needed to form the first ever Pulteney Old Scholars Women's Hockey Team. The team will be placed in Division 5 in 2009.
Off the field
The club has dinner most weeks, after trainings at The Astor Hotel, Pulteney Street. Most players come back and have dinner and a good yarn. During the year, we hold Poker Nights, Pre and Post Season trips and an end-of-season dinner. All players who have email receive a match report each week, which causes many a discussion on Monday mornings!
Club Committee
The club has had very stable leadership from a select few for it's entire life. The current 'administrative committee' pride themselves on doing their best for all players of the club.
